Overview Job Description Who we’re looking for: The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a Genetic Counseling Assistant with the Clinical Genomic Analysis (CGA) Team at the University of Washington Medical Center - Montlake. In this role, you will gain first-hand knowledge of patient care and research related to one or more of these genetics and genomics specialties: targeted gene panels, exome/genome sequencing, cytogenetics and genomics related to prenatal, pediatric and adult-onset conditions, and hereditary and solid tumor cancers. You will collaborate with a highly talented and experienced group of Genetic Counselors, Variant Scientists, Lab staff, students, faculty, and fellows as part of a cross-functional team working towards a common goal of providing high-quality patient care. You will also have the opportunity to learn and support various aspects of laboratory Genetic testing, including triaging orders, assisting ordering providers, drafting clinical histories, drawing pedigrees, preparing cases for sign out, etc. Work schedule:

Monday – Friday Day shift: 8:00 – 4:30pm Initial training is 100% onsite; then can telework one (1) day per week What you’ll contribute: Coordinate data collection efforts for clinical orders or research studies within the genetics division laboratories that interface with the clinical genomic analysis team including reviewing cases and associated paperwork as outlined below. Assist with genetics database case creation and entry, including but not limited to, reviewing submitted clinical paperwork, accurately inputting relevant patient information into internal genetics database, and triaging new orders to relevant internal teams to initiate test processing. Perform chart review in EPIC electronic medical record, case tracker and/or other internal databases to accomplish multiple tasks. Draft clinical histories and draw pedigrees to aid in data analysis and reporting. Communicate effectively with ordering providers, genetic counselors, and researchers. Answer phone calls, emails, and other modes of communication from ordering providers, researchers, and lab teams and address and/or triage inquiries to members of the Clinical Genomic Analyst team or other members in the Genetics division. Coordinate sample kit send outs. Independently manage customized saliva kit send-out service, including but not limited to, tracking requests for saliva kits, coordinating kit send out to patients’ homes, following up on outstanding kits, and managing internal inventory of sample collection kits and shipping supplies. Collaborate with genetic counselors, variant review scientists, and other members of the division or department to assist with streamlining protocols or workflows for clinical cases and research studies and interface with collaborating providers and researchers to troubleshoot issues as needed. Review narrative interpretive reports prepared by genetics faculty and CGA team members to ensure accuracy, assist with the reporting process, and securely email or fax reports. Manage the timely transfer and hand-off of paperwork between various teams including the clinical genomic analyst team, directors, and lab teams. Assist with entering test results into laboratory information system and other reporting tasks as needed. Review insurance denials and assist with preparing letters of medical necessity as needed. Assist with training and orientation of rotating students and staff, and provide constructive feedback as needed. Work with Genomic Analysis Manager to develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and job-aids for the Genetic Counseling Assistant team. Assist members of the clinical genomics analysis team in other clinical and research-related tasks as needed. What you’ll need: Bachelor’s degree in science or another related field. Three (3) years of experience in HIPAA, study support and/or coordination, and collecting and/or coordinating data. Desired qualifications: Experience in genetics related field.
