Boiler Operator

You will operate a boiler with responsibility for the operation of all equipment in the boiler plants during the shift.

You will fire/operate gas fired boilers and multi-fuel boilers with capacities up to 60,000 pounds of steam per hour, igniting boilers by operation of electronic controls.

You will regulate oil temperature in storage tanks.

You will operate as Roving patrols, maintaining hourly logs of all operations.

Must be a US Citizen.

Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.

This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

You will be required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.

You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

This is a bargaining unit position.

This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Monitoring/evaluating performance of boiler and boiler auxiliary systems (i.e. boiler temperature, pressure, water levels, chemicals or fuel) and make adjustments to maintain system requirements; Assisting with plant logs, laboratory records, and quality control records to document operation and maintenance on a steam plant; Ability to adjust valves, control pumps, and regulate pressure atomizing burners, dampers, and fans to maintain correct fuel to air ratio for the most economical operation; and Reading gauges and boiler water level indicators to confirm equipment is functioning normally.

The position is designated as mission essential (ALPHA) and such personnel may be required to report for duty or held in a duty status to provide support before, during and/or after special emergency situations, such as: destructive weather, disasters, or periods of an increased security threat.

The position will require shift work at odd hours. The incumbent must be able to work overtime as required.

The incumbent must be able to wear and use all required personal protective equipment (PPE) to meet requirements of duties being performed (safety glasses, safety shoes, earplugs> hardhat).
