Job Title: MIG Welder

Job Description

The Welder is responsible for fabricating and welding metal components according to blueprints and specifications. This role involves operating welding equipment, ensuring quality standards, and maintaining a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform MIG welding on parts such as leg stands, cab shields, engine mounts, and light bars.
• Execute MIG tack welding to hold metal pieces in place before final welding.
• Conduct cosmetic MIG welds on VBOX Hopper Spreaders, ensuring a high-quality finish.
• Interpret and work from blueprints and specifications to complete welding tasks.
• Inspect welds visually to ensure they meet quality and specification standards.
• Utilize hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment safely and effectively.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in MIG welding, including performing high-quality welds on steel and possibly aluminum.
• Experience welding stainless steel with thickness from 14g to 3/4 inch plate.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and specifications.
• Fabrication skills, including cutting, grinding, and fitting metal parts before welding.
• Experience in weld inspection for quality assurance.
• Safe and effective tool operation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 2-3 years of experience working as a welder in a manufacturing environment or a graduate from a welding trade school.
• Manual dexterity with steady hands and good hand-eye coordination.
• Physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift heavy materials, and work in various positions.
• Strong safety awareness, including knowledge of PPE use and hazard recognition.
• Attention to detail for precision in measurements and weld quality.
• Effective time management skills to meet production deadlines.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other welders, fabricators, and engineers.
• Problem-solving skills to identify and correct welding or fabrication issues.

Work Environment

The position operates on a 1st shift from 5am to 1:30pm, with extended hours until 3:30pm during the busy season. Occasional Saturday work for 5 hours may be required. This role is in a manufacturing environment where temperatures can match the outside weather. We provide water stations and access to ice pops to help manage heat. The facility is busy, with materials laid out neatly and forklifts in operation, so situational awareness is crucial.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockford, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr.
